31 December 2010
In the past couple of
months I have made more Teddies - please meet Alistair, Gerald, Mark
and Wilfred.
Happy New Year to
everyone!

I
received an unusual order a couple of weeks ago - I was asked to make,
not a Teddy but a Squirrel!
Not only that, it had to be a handsome
male, and a pilot too! It felt quite strange but in the end I was quite
pleased with the result. As it turned out, the lady who placed the
order was pleased too.
So, without any more
ado, let me introduce Jonathan, the Flying Squirrel.

Some time ago, I started volunteering at
the Reworked for Oxfam boutique in Reading. It is a
wonderful place to
work in - surrounded with vast amounts of buttons, beads and ribbons of
all shapes and sizes, and very nice people!
We try to turn ordinary
clothes and accessories into unique striking items for those of
artistic disposition to wear. We are free to choose from an
enormous
variety of fabrics to adorn our oeuvres.
I even had the pleasure to make a new patchwork
Teddy specially for Reworked - an unusually large one, practically a
giant. After some deliberation by my colleagues and myself,
it became
clear that it was a she, and that her name was Edna.
She now enjoys herself sitting on a shelf in the boutique and welcoming
customers. |

Several
of my Teddies and I went to a Christmas Fair for
office
workers in Winnersh. A good time was had by all. The Christmas
lunch
was perfect (and free)!
Felted bears enjoyed
particular success. Preparing for the fair, I made a few Bear Brooches
in different colours.

The
Traditional Craft Fair at the Museum of English Rural Life was a great
success! Frank, Jebediah, Max, and 5 small felted bears were adopted.
Many visitors asked questions, so I explained how traditional Teddies
and felted bears were made, and showed all the materials.
I also demonstrated the dry-felting process and invited anyone
interested to try. One brave lady made a small paw for the new bear I
was making in the demonstration!
My husband and the children also helped to answer questions, explaining
why Teddy bears were called Teddy bears (clue: Theodore Roosevelt) and
so on.
People from the Reading Chronicle came to take pictures of my stall and
all of us, so watch out for the next edition!
The Fair was very well organized, everyone at the Museum was very
friendly and helpful.
There were plenty of other interesting stalls, and my daughter got
herself a beautiful ring made from a silver spoon! |
4 November
I have a new Teddy
ready! His name is Noel
and he is now available for adoption.
27 October
- I have been invited
to exhibit at the
Traditional Craft Fair
at MERL, the Museum of
English Rural Life in Reading. The fair is on Saturday
6th November, 11 am to 4 pm. My stall is number
13. Everyone is welcome!
- Susan has been
adopted. She will be travelling to Moscow!

The
website
is up and running. Many thanks to my friends and family for their
support, advice and constructive criticism, particularly to my husband
for all
his hard work in website design, and to my children for the photographs.
