Sasha's Bears

A Bear family

2 October 2012

I can now reveal the identity of the mystery bear I wrote about a few days ago. Strangely enough, her name (she is a girl bear) is Sasha! She was ordered by a loving grandmother for her newborn granddaughter who happened to be my namesake.
Sasha the bear was given to Sasha the baby girl today, so she is no longer a secret and I can share her with you. I hope the two Sashas will be friends for many years to come!

I have not just been making Teddies last month. At Adrienne Henry Millinery, I have also made quite a few new cloches. Have a look at the Autumn 2012 Collection:

Black cloche  White cloche  Black cloche 2  Mauve cloche
Pink cloche  White cloche 2  Pink cloche 2
Blue cloche  Red cloche  Black cloche with buckle
Red cloche  White and black cloche  Mauve cloche 2

30 September

Believe it or not, I have squeezed another Teddy into his Teddy-rich month. Allow me to introduce Basil, the inquisitive explorer or the nooks and crannies of our garden (not that it has any crannies as far as I know).

28 September

Yet another Teddy has joined the club, but I am not at liberty to divulge any details yet. This particular bear was made to order and will be given to someone as a very special present. As soon as this happens, I will be glad to share the story with you.

25 September

I have been invited to exhibit my teddies at a very special event, the Abingdon Contemporary Crafts for Christmas Show, to be held at Medieval Abbey Buildings in Abingdon, OXON, from 25th until 28th October. I am very excited about this! The normal entry price for visitors is £4.30 (concessions £3.30, children £2.00), but I have a few free entry VIP coupons to give away. If you are interested, email me!

September is good month for bears, it would appear. I have made yet another small Teddy. After some deliberation he was named Joshua. He is not particularly brave so likes to keep an eye on proceedings from a vantage position on the car roof.

11 September

Another new Teddy arrived in the world today. His name is Toby. He is quite small but determined to prove he is a wild one - so he does not let me brush his long hair :)

5 September

Back from the summer holiday in Russia, I have finally completed the Teddy I started back in July before I left. Arthur the decorated gardener is made of beautiful vintage upholstery fabric!

19 July

It is the day I know you have all been waiting for with bated breath: Sasha's Bears are now on Facebook!

I have to say a very big thank you to my daughter Sonya for getting it going. A special thank you too to my son Gosha for the plentiful practical advice that he has given me about using Facebook. A huge thank you to my dear husband for helping with the website, the newsletters and for IT support in general. I would also like to thank all my friends in many countries for keeping their faith in my eventual technological progress...

...Oh... I see, it's not the Oscars ceremony. Well, all right then, I won't say any more...

17 July

Some of my Teddies have got a new home!

As of today, they are on display at Creative Crafts & Workshops, a local small retail business based in Harris Arcade Unit 3, Reading, RG1 1DN Berkshire. It is a very nice shop run by a very nice lady, Adriana Bowyer.

4 July 2012

As I mentioned last month, I still enjoy making cloches - all the more so because the weather remains rather on the wintry side.

I have had a few new design ideas involving feathers and felting.

As you can see, I have been using different materials and textures for decoration. It seems to me that cloches, as a very classical type of hat, lend themselves readily to all sorts of experiments.

Sometimes I have a clear vision of the hat I want before I start working on it. At other times, I just play with the bits and bobs lying around (in the hat shop, which, as many people have noted, is a nice inspiring mess), and the idea just crystallizes in my hands, not in my head...
