5 August 2013

At the beginning of August we took Geoffrey and Luke with us when we went on a five-day holiday to Wales, to the lovely seaside town of Tenby in Pembrokeshire.

As soon as we arrived in the B&B, Luke made friends with... an elephant!

We were somewhat disappointed when both Geoffrey and Luke told us in no uncertain terms than they are not going to the beach (arguing - quite reasonably, I must admit - that Teddies are not maritime creatures).

Despite this setback, we all had a wonderful time! It turned out that both Geoffrey and Luke liked old castles, and, as you probably know, there are plenty of those in that part of the world.  So while we sunbathed, they explored the nearby castles, and even took us to see some too.

Another one of my Teddies left home today. Brendan's move marked the end of another school year.
He did not have far to go: he will live with a nice family just a few streets away here in Caversham.
I know for sure he will be very happy in his new home, and wish him all the best!

I have now said good-bye to Basil. And if, looking at the picture on his page, you exclaim: "Hang on, I am sure I know this Teddy but I don't remember the name!" - you are quite right. You see, he was using an alias until recently. Not, you understand, because he had anything to hide; he simply seemed to like the idea :)

I would like to share with you two more of Mia Mecifi's photos of Adrienne Henry Millinery and our hats.
You are always welcome to come in if you find yourself in Reading town centre and discover a perfect hat for a loved one, a friend or even yourself!

Thomas at the fitting A couple of days ago I said good-bye to one of my Teddies, Thomas.

I sent him off to a new life after he was chosen as a special present for a boy who will be the best man at a wedding today.

As a send-off gift from me, Thomas received a tailormade navy suit and a purple tie, almost exactly the same as those worn by his new owner.

I am sure he will be very happy in his new home somewhere in Essex.

Orange cloche Much to my joy, I am getting ever more involved in hat-making at Adrienne Henry Millinery.

We have just had the first of several  sessions with an excellent Reading-based photographer, Mia Mecifi, and I am very pleased to show you the fruit of our joint effort (with Mia's kind permission).

What you see here - both cloches and percher hats - is part of our latest Parisienne collection.

I do like the model who gave her consent to work with us for this session :)

One type of hat I do not think I have ever shown you on these pages is the traditional top hat.  We do not make them ourselves but we experiment with all sorts of beautiful decorations.

The one you see on the right was a special order for a wedding day, to match the dress. It was decorated with dusty-purple silk for the banding and the flowers, and specially-cut off-white feathers.

As you may have spotted, I have not made any teddies lately, and that is because I was very busy with all kinds of hats. I will post some nice pictures soon, to watch this space!

Sasha at Fawley Hill fair I spent the weekend at the Fawley Hill Steam & Vintage Weekend as part of British Alpaca Fashion's Victorian England team. I was there with some of my Teddies made from alpaca fabrics and many other alpaca products I had made: cushion covers, bags, waistcoats, hats with alpaca fibre decorations, funny bunnies... The idea was to show how many different things one can make from this wonderful fibre.

We all had a wonderful time and the weather was most enjoyable.

One of the Teddies was adopted by a very nice gentleman, who came back for him so that the two of them could ride home together on his bicycle. I hope the Teddy was not to scared travelling in a rucksack, with just his head sticking out :)

I hope you have not forgotten my dear cat Noodle.

She is still very much interested in my work and checks that I do everything just right.

The most important thing for her is of course that the things I make should be comfortable and cozy enough.

She is always quite strict with me :)

I have now opened an Etsy online shop called... SashasBears.
All my available teddies can be purchased there!

I said good-bye to my teddy Sven a few days ago when he was adopted and left for Moscow. It turns out, however, that he decided to go via Scotland, and he has now sent me some very nice pictures of himself, asking me to share them with you all. Who am I to disagree (as Annie Lennox used to sing)? Here goes then:
