10 April 2013

It is well known that April is a good time for bears. Today I made my third teddy of the month.
Sven is very good with the camera and intends to go into film-making.
He is a great admirer of Scandinavian cinema, his favourite director being Ingmar Beargman.

Today sees the arrival in this world of Jessica, a small teddy of a very cheerful disposition, who is equally happy to play with friends or on her own.
She only becomes upset if anyone tells her, however tactfully, that she looks a bit like a mouse :( And she does NOT look like one at all, believe me!

Over the past two months, I have made quite a few new hats for Adrienne Henry Millinery.
Most of them were cloches, but I also experimented with new shapes a bit.

Two cloches Green cloche with ribbon Green cloche Two summer hats

Both the summer hats and the cloches - which are all the rage this season - are variations on the 1920s theme.

Although his birthday happens to fall on April Fool's Day, Luke is nobody's fool; in fact, he is cleverer than most. You see, unusually for a bear, Luke is a philosopher! He often stops in his tracks and stares right in front of him, lost in thought. Luke is currently working on his first book, its provisional title "Bear with Me"...

22 March

Tomorrow is a very happy day for two good friends of ours who are getting married!

Our present to them is a newly-wed teddy couple:
Maud (the one on the left) is the perfect other half that Arthur has been seeking for a long long time.

The two of them are made from two sides of the same fabric, as I believe all proper couples should be :)

19 March

A while ago, I received an order from the country I have never been to, South Africa.
I was asked to make a large teddy in French Pink mohair for my correspondent's grown-up daughter.
It took some time, but now Rose-Lyn is on her way (to Basel to begin with).
Rose-Lyn is a very gentle lady bear. Your first instinct when you see her is to hug her tight and stroke her soft hair. And she just loves it!.

4 March

Another month starting, another teddy completed :)
This one is quite small and not particularly strong but very loyal: if any of his friends needs help, he is always there with a kind word and good advice. Oh, I nearly forgot: his name is Brendan.

14 February

Trev and his back pack Trev (on the left) is a special teddy made for a special occasion: he is an engagement present from the bridegroom to the bride, presented - look at the date again - on Valentine's day!

In his back pack, Trev has a tiny Valentine (on the right).

Green hats with feathers While carrying on with my teddies, I have not fogotten hat-making either.

I still help at Adrienne Henry Millinery at the Harris Arcade in Reading - come and visit if you can, it is right in the town centre, two minute's walk from the station!

My latest creation is the two hats you can see on the left here. They are custom-made for two sisters' wedding outfits

11 January 2013

This year's first teddy did not take long to make his appearance. His name is Damian and he is an actor.
To quote from his latest press release:
"Damian lives for the stage. Having starred in the panto Snow White and the Seven Bears, he now hopes to join the Royal Shakesbear Company. Critics believe Damian has the making of an excellent Macbearth, Prosbearo and even King Bear..."
